Giacomo Bernardi earned his B.A., M.S., and Ph.D., at the University of Paris and did post-doctoral work from 1991 to 1994 Hopkins Marine Station at Stanford University.
Global climate change translates into an increase in ocean temperatures and ocean acidification, with far-reaching consequences. In this talk, Giacomo Bernardi will explore genomic changes due to warming and acidification. In Mediterranean waters, warming has resulted in an increase in biological invaders coming from the Red Sea via the Suez Canal. Ocean acidification has changed a number of physiological responses in fishes, particularly modifying their olfaction. Using fish as model systems and next generation genomic sequencing, Dr. Bernardiís talk will illustrate one way of looking at the future of our ecosystems.
