Since her college days as a self-described failed physics major, reporter Lisa Taggart has been fascinated with and intimidated by the scientific world.  So Café Scientifique struck her as a superb idea.  She recognized that Palo Alto with a preponderance of people she calls "schmartypants" was a perfect spot to launch the Café.  When she attended the April 13 event with earthquake expert David Schwartz of the United States Geological Survey, she felt too timid to ask a question about earthquake insurance.  She was relieved that another attendee did ask the question, both to her benefit and the benefit of the entire audience.
